about

This is an ode to my home city, Cape Town, in South Africa. I started writing this track during one of the stricter lockdowns in 2020 and also happened to finish it on a Sunday afternoon. It all started with learning a lot more about music production/learning a DAW from a fellow musician. I got my sax out and started singing some melody lines that had been stuck in my head.

After recording these sax and vocal lines and experimenting with an electronic hip-hop/R&B beat, I added some synths and strings and many hours later, a song was born! It was quite short, and I posted the track on social media, accompanied by a video I'd filmed myself. It received a great response on YouTube and social media so a couple months later I decided to expand it and turn it into a fully-fledged song.

At the start of 2021, I revised the track, polished the arrangement and added in a few more parts, as well as a grooving bass line. I loved experimenting with my passion, jazz saxophone, and fusing these melodies with more electronic sounds.

I wrote this track with scenes of Cape Town in mind (especially since, at the time of first writing it, we were in a strict lockdown in 2020 and could not go out much). When I listen to it I envision those classic coastal Sunday afternoon drives that we Capetonians are so fortunate to take whenever we want to. This is what a typical Sunday in Cape Town should be. I hope everyone can listen to this track, and be reminded of a glorious Summer "Sunday Afternoon" in Cape Town!

Thank you to all of the dope dudes/tech ninjas who helped me learn a DAW during lockdown and for all of your support - you know who you are. Thank you to my friend, Matthew October (who mixed and mastered the track) for all of your hard work.
